OVER TIME
OVER TIME
This piece was a private commission. My client’s home is represented as the large central gathering place on a hill with her four family members represented as the U shapes in the middle. They also look like boomerangs representing always coming back home. It is surrounded by shields to keep them safe, and the outer layer of the circle has shelters and good energy.
From where they are positioned, they often witness beautiful sunsets and the majestic, Yellow-tailed black cockatoos flying over. The branches coming out from each side are the gorgeous Pin Cushion Hakea flowers and leaves. The rocks along the bottom represent the beautiful rocks they have dug up in the process of building and have used them throughout their garden.
On the right coming down the hill is Curdies River with a gathering place under it that has a boomerang above it representing an old gathering place where the First Peoples would’ve come back and camped seasonally. There are also underground water channels coming out from the river. The leaf represents our environment and how important it is to look after it. The shield is an old artefact buried in the layers of time. The U-shaped patterns represent caves and shelters that would’ve once been used by local First Peoples and the circle in the middle above the rocks is a scatter site where there are lots of small artefacts trapped amongst layers in a small area. The pattern with small circles and connecting lines represent connection to place, the feet represent remembering who roamed and sustained the land over thousands of years. There is another ancient gathering place on the left and the emu and kangaroo tracks represent the native animals around the area.
