Lake Keilambete is found approximately 6km north of Terang.

Featured in the middle is Lake Keilambete, it is almost a perfectly round lake. Its water is said to have powerful healing qualities due to its high mineral content and concentration of salt and trace elements.

At the top and the bottom of the artwork are a row of small branches with leaves represent the word Terang which means ‘twig with leaves’ in local Aboriginal language. Terang is also known for its historic trees.

The connected gathering places between the twigs represent Terang’s community and the connections our local tribes/clans have there.

The two horizontal lines near the top and near the bottom of the artwork represent the constant flow and production of water that comes from the natural spring north of the lake. The little fine white dots represent the salt and trace elements found within that water.

I have put kangaroos/wallabies, swans/ducks, emu and crane/herron tracks around the spring that would’ve once thrived around the lake and been an important food source for our First Peoples living around the area.

The footprints represent the first peoples travelling seasonally and occupying the area with the U shapes representing their Mia Mia’s (shelters) built around the lake, that has been documented by early settlers.

The wavy lines surrounding the lake represent the healing energy and life that the water from the lake provides.
