THE STORY

I created this piece in response to a poem written by poet John Shaw Neilson titled ‘Poor, poor country’, as part of an art competition I didn’t end up entering. He had a love for the birdlife and although the land was going through a tough time, he didn’t need money when his life was en-riched by the birdlife, they bought him much joy and he would often observe them at night. He mentioned the blue cranes a lot in his writings so I decided to create this scene based on what I imaged he might have witnessed.
